Bedford PA Attractions

Enjoy interesting and historical sights at the Fort Bedford Museum, Old Bedford Village, and other Bedford PA attractions.  Pay respects to our nation’s more recent history at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville (23 miles west of Bedford).

Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art

A community art museum founded in 1976 with five locations in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Bedford location is next door to the Golden Eagle Inn. Fort Bedford Museum

The museum includes a new Interpretive Civil War Exhibit and the original fort flag. Open May - October Daily Except for Tuesday. November - April Saturday and Sunday only.

Old Bedford Village

A living history village offering a variety of educational and entertainment activities such as military and civilian re-enactments, colonial crafts, exhibits, festivals, and an old-fashioned Christmas celebration.  Open Memorial Day through October, Thursday to Sunday.  Closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Coral Caverns

Small cavern that is about 12 minutes away from the inn. It is a little tricky to find the entrance as it sits behind the small town of Bedford. You'll follow a dirt road to a small wooden building next to the entrance. It has been open to visitors for 80 years. Discovered during limestone mining operations, the cavern is family run and offers a small museum and gift shop. Tours are 30-45 minutes and once inside the cave, you'll see why it is named "coral" as there are many pieces of fossilized coral. Please call ahead for hours of operations and directions.

1806 Old Log Church

Begun in 1806 by the Reformed and Lutheran Congregations, it is the oldest standing church in Bedford County. The physical address is 343 Cemetery Road, Schellsburg, PA. The pulpit is called a "wine glass pulpit" as it is similar to that type of drinking vessel that was added to the church in 1812. You can visit the church during daylight hours every day between Memorial Day and Labor Day which is a self-guided attraction. Flight 93 National Memorial

This memorial was built to honor the passengers of Flight 93 that crashed in Stoystown, PA on 9/11/2001. It offers a Visitor Center, Memorial Plaza and the Tower of Voices. Visit the website for more information and hours of operation. There is no entrance fee.

Horseshoe Curve

Built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1854, the curve helped lessen the grade to the summit of the Allegheny Mountains. Today it is a national historical landmark and also known as one of the eight engineering marvels of the world. View the orientation films at the visitor center and the nearby Railroaders Memorial Museum. Hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Visit the website for more information

Lincoln Caverns

Lincoln Caverns is located in Huntingdon, PA one hour north of the Inn. Two separate one hour tours are available to see a variety of cave formations including crystals, stalactites, and massive flowstones at either Lincoln Caverns or Whisper Rocks. Living Treasures Animal Park

This family friendly animal park has over 400 animals of 70 different species. From birds to big cats and bears, you'll enjoy seeing the animals up close that offers an interactve and educational experience. Check the website for hours of operation and to purchase tickets. It is about an hours drive from the inn.

Fallingwater

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fallingwater is a national historical landmark about one and a half hours away from the Inn. Opened in 1964, it is a very unique house that is available to the public to tour May 1st to December 31st. Winter walks of the grounds are available November 29th to March 4th.
